If you are a australian qantas pilot can you transfer to an international airport please read for details?

Say you are a Qantas Pilot in Australia and you want to work for an International Airline like Singapore Airlines can you or do they have different license's you need and you have to start from scratch could you tell me the whole proscess and i know about the Citizenship stuff..

Thanks|||Luke:

The answer is YES your imaginary pilot can transfer, but there are several caveats on how that might occur. Every airline that I am aware of operates on a strict seniority system, so:

1) Your pilot will have to get hired by Singapore Airlines.

2) He will have to completely pass the training at Singapore

3) He will have to complete the probationary period at Singapore

4) He will start at the bottom at Singapore. A VERY experienced B777 Captain, will start over as the most junior first officer, or even lower if there is such a thing,

5) There may be an issue with pilot certificates, but for an experienced pilot that is usually not a problem. Prior to 2007 when the age 60 rule changed, many pilots left my airline to go fly in other parts of the world, and most had no certificate issues. Some flying with medical waivers couldn't duplicate the waiver in the foreign country, and couldn't work, but most had a clean transfer.

Occasionally an airline will hire what are called "street captains" which means that a pilot who is very experienced comes to work in the left seat. Often, in the Far East, this happens on a contract basis. When the contract is over, our street captain is well, on the street. Over the years I have met pilots from defunct airlines who make a pretty good living providing themselves as experienced contract captains in area of the world where there is a shortage. They work until the airline feels like their local talent can fill the bill.|||It would be silly to transfer if you were already flying for Qantas because it is all about seniority. No matter what your previous experience, you are hired at the bottom of the seniority pile and must work your way up, so even a Qantas captain would have to start out as a junior copilot if he jumped between companies. This is pretty much true of all airlines nation-wide except recent start-ups looking for qualified people, especially captains.|||If you were a Qantas pilot i don't think you would be asking this question on Yahoo 7 answers you would have all the info at Qantas
